Wouldn’t it be easier to test recipes to create eco-friendly products if you could buy the ingredients in bulk?

Sometimes you just need a small chunk of an ingredient to complete a recipe.  Unfortunately, you usually have to buy the whole box which costs at least $8 per item.

At One Soak, you can buy in bulk the exact amount of ingredients you need to make eco-friendly products at home.

Why am I telling you about One Soak?

I discovered this store when I was looking for pine resin in Montreal to make my beeswax wraps.  The store is well laid out, colorful and I especially liked the philosophy behind the company.

History of One Soak

One Soak is a family-owned business, located in Longueuil, just outside of Montreal.

The company is managed by two sisters who share the same passion for homemade soaps. A passion that was passed on by their grandmother.

The name One Soak, which at first was supposed to be One Soak – One Use, refers to raw materials. Materials that can be used right from the start without having to go through different processes.

The project took 6 months to come to fruition and the Longueuil boutique opened in June 2019.

The bulk products at One Soak come from different places around the world. They come from places such as Mexico or the African continent because not everything can come from Quebec.  For example, as mentioned in my article on Essential Oils, the tea tree comes from Australia.  It doesn’t grow anywhere else!

One Soak’s philosophy

At One Soak, the optic is zero waste.

From start to finish the goal is to minimize our environmental impact as much as possible.

All the ingredients are sold in bulk. They are presented in such a way that it will make you want to try them all.

The pouches in which you will put your ingredients in bulk are recyclable.  Alternatively, you can bring your own reusable containers.

If you order your bulk ingredients online, they will be delivered in eco-friendly packaging.  One Soak’s goal is to reduce the use of plastic as much as possible.

Making our mailings as waste-free as possible is a priority for us.

The oils are delivered in aluminum pouches, the boxes are made of recycled cardboard and closed with Kraft paper tape.  For less fragile materials, 100% biodegradable plant-based bags are used.

One Soak’s mission is to offer all the necessary materials (ingredients) and advice to help their customers create eco-friendly recipes.

After my first visit for my pine resin, I went back to buy minerals. I wanted to test out new colors to make my colored pencils which you can purchase HERE on our ONLINE STORE.

One Soak products

One Soak also offers workshops to learn how to make shampoos, soaps, etc.  However, currently, due to the pandemic, these workshops cannot take place.  This is not a problem!  Soon you’ll be able to do them online.

In the meantime, check out their BLOG (in French) to find and test recipes for eco-friendly products.

Some of One Soak’s products are available on our online store. It made sense to integrate them on our line as they are useful, effective, eco-friendly and bonus made in Quebec!

I recommend their shampoo and conditioner which are compact and practical when you travel.

Shampoo bar

One Soak can produce between 200 and 250 bars of shampoo per day with the help of 4 people.  It is the molding that takes up the most time.

Did you know that a shampoo bar can replace up to three bottles of shampoo?  Of course, it also depends on your hair length and the frequency of washing.

However, to maximize the longevity of your shampoo bar, remember to use a proper soap dish like THIS one.

DIY box

If the idea of creating your own shampoo bar appeals to you, try THIS BOX SET. This is great if you just want to test out the recipe before getting too over your head.

The box set provides all the ingredients needed to make a shampoo and conditioner bar (including molds).  It’s a great gift to give to someone who is embarking on a zero-waste lifestyle. Why not get one for yourself to try? Practical and useful!

Zero Waste Products

In the store, you’ll also find other eco-friendly products such as paper towels and reusable toilet paper.  If you’ve signed up for cloth diapers for your kids, why not try reusable toilet paper?

When I went to the store the second time, they were out of stock.  Toilet paper whether eco-friendly or not will have been a hot commodity in 2020!

A hand sanitizer that smells good

During my first visit to the store with Blondie Bear, we disinfected our hands with One Soak’s homemade hand sanitizer.

Afterward, we went for a walk with our Newfoundland Nouki on the Desaulniers Linear Park Trail. It’s just a few steps away from the One Soak store.

After all, if we’re going to move around, we might as well make it fun and useful!  The trail is really long and pleasant to walk with a dog and kids.  Blondie Bear and I also took the opportunity to ‘spy’ in people’s gardens of the beautiful houses along the trail.

Throughout our walk, there was a scent that followed us and we wondered where it came from!  Finally, we realized that it came from the One Soak disinfectant gel!

Honestly, it smelled so good that when I went back I asked for the recipe!  The disinfectant made by One Soak is much more pleasant than the tequila smelling, heart-lifting disinfectant used in the subway.

Although One Soak’s disinfectant is not available commercially, nothing prevents you from making it yourself. Then, you can bring it along at your next family reunion.

The list of ingredients is simple. You can buy them all in bulk from One Soak to make your own disinfectant.

However, the amount will depend on the size of your pump or spray container. You can buy them directly from One Soak as well.

Ingredients:

– 65% iso 99% alcohol

– 20% aloe juice

– 15% vegetable glycerine

– 5-10 drops of Jasmine (depending on container size)

Vegetable glycerine helps to attenuate the drying effect.

Then, insert your ingredients one at a time into your container. Shake the bottle to mix the ingredients together, and that’s it.

The jasmine oil can be substituted with another oil, but I especially liked the fragrance.

What recipe would you like to try now? All the ingredients you need in bulk to make your eco-friendly are just a click away.
